prof. Maurizio Riotto

Formerly research fellow at Seoul National University (1985-1990) and professor at Naples' University of Oriental Studies (1990-2019), Maurizio Riotto currently participates in a Korean government project on East/West cultural exchanges in antiquity at Anyang University. His main scientific interests are history, literature and culture of Korea, with particular reference to ancient times, and Comparative cultural studies. Long resident in the Far East, he has been Visiting Professor in numerous universities and cultural institutions in Korea and Japan. He has over two hundred publications on Korea to his credit: among these, the first Western translations of the Chewang un'gi and the Pŏphwa yŏnghŏmjŏn. In 2011 he received the Medal of Honor (문화포장) for Cultural Merit from the President of the Republic of Korea.
